Soletanche Bachy Launches Its Environmental Action Plan

With the goal of aligning with the Paris Agreement, VINCI has committed to reducing the direct impact of its activities. In a first phase, set for 2030, the Group aims to cut its emissions by 40%.

Soletanche Bachy has long been taking environmental action on waste separation, wastewater treatment, and pollution control—including noise pollution. Over half of the Group’s local subsidiaries are already ISO 14001 certified, recognizing their environmental management systems. Many of them have also been using low-carbon concrete (CEM II, CEM III) for many years.

A pragmatic, local, and dynamic Environmental Action Plan. Through its Environmental Action Plan, Soletanche Bachy aims to go one step further by adopting a pragmatic, locally driven initiative that promotes concrete, targeted actions developed within each subsidiary and at Group level.

Its goal is to reduce the Group’s carbon footprint by 40% by 2030 in scopes 1 and 2. The main tool to achieve this: cutting direct and indirect fossil fuel consumption—primarily diesel—which currently reaches 40 million liters (accounting for 91% of Soletanche Bachy’s emissions in scopes 1 and 2). Soletanche Bachy also aims to reduce its cement use, a material widely used in diaphragm walls, grouts, and precast piles. With this in mind, the Group is committed to using low-carbon cement (CEM II or CEM III) and incorporating alternative binders.

As part of the Action Plan, the Group will also work to minimize its waste and maximize recycling and recovery (disposal, storage, recycling).

In addition to its quantified target, Soletanche Bachy’s Environmental Action Plan includes several key ambitions: rethinking core activities and soil-related technologies, and fostering a true environmental culture at all levels of the Group.

Next steps: each local Soletanche Bachy subsidiary will develop its own environmental action plan inspired by the Group’s, focusing on one or two topics that are most relevant locally (fuel, cement, waste).

Soletanche Bachy’s Action Plan is also dynamic, evolving according to progress and results, and adapting as needed to address additional topics.
